VET CLINIC MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the CEO, the Vet Clinic Manager will work well independently, implement and ensure best health practices and standards of care in daily vet clinic operations for the animals of Watermelon Mountain Ranch.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides assessment and basic treatment to shelter animals, including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and vaccinations (excluding rabies), and schedules further assessment, diagnostics, treatment and/or follow-up care by a veterinarian as necessary.

• Provides direct supervision to the Veterinary Assistant and instructs him/her on carrying out treatment plans, scheduling appointments and follow-up needs for shelter and foster pets, preparing for surgery days, and other functions of the Veterinary Assistant position. Ensures Veterinary Assistant is performing tasks properly, timely, and consistently and provides appropriate feedback and correction as necessary.

• Serves as a member of the Leadership Team, attending regular Leadership Team meetings and being a champion of safety and wellness initiatives.

• Provides written instructions for animal care staff regarding any special needs, including medical, dietary, and health restrictions. Cleary communicates treatment plans to staff and volunteers and ensures treatments are being administered properly.

• Performs and assists with the timely intake exams of animals.

• Provides limited on-call services for shelter animal and foster animal medical emergencies.

• Refers animals for medical/surgical care at a partner veterinary

• Monitors veterinary-related spending and stays within budgeted amounts.

• Bathes animals and performs limited grooming tasks

• Ensures necessary animal vaccination, spay/neuter, medical, and treatment records are properly maintained.

• Ensures proper labeling and dating of medications,

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Preferred experience in a clinic or shelter setting.

• Preferred Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or in the process of registering with the State of New Mexico.

• Must work autonomously and confidently without the regular presence of a veterinarian.

• Must demonstrate leadership and be enthusiastic, self-motivated, team-oriented, and quality-improvement minded.
